METROCARE Hospitals, with its stringent COVID -19 specific steps, has managed to hold infections at bay at a time when it is clear that the novel coronavirus pandemic has presented new challenges to healthcare staff.

This has aided the highly motivated team in maintaining their morale and providing improved service to both COVID and non-COVID patients. Our main goal has been to approach the situation holistically, figuring out how the pandemic could affect healthy patients, FLU patients, sick patients, as well as doctors and staff.

Strict guidelines are followed in all areas to ensure social distancing.

We have a dedicated Flu OPD that screens and triages patients with flu, cold, breathlessness, and other flu-like symptoms so that they can be guided to the appropriate care and movement to other Hospital areas is restricted.

In our NABL and ICMR certified lab, we have ensured safe COVID testing facilities.

We’ve put in place strict procedures for segregation and isolation for COVID suspects and positive patients, as well as designated IPD areas for non-COVID patients, surgery patients, and delivery patients.

We divided the areas into three categories: holdup areas, suspected areas, and optimistic areas, each with its personnel, instruments, and equipment.

We’ve held rigorous training sessions for both medical and non-medical personnel.

As part of our pre-planned protocol, employees were instructed to work for seven days and then rest for seven days, with six-hour shifts in critical areas and eight-hour shifts in non-critical areas.

We separated the areas for delivery and surgery for non-covid patients, started a helpline for such patients, and provided video calling facilities for relatives who were not allowed inside, all with careful preparation for smooth services to non-covid patients. From a safety standpoint, there was even counseling for voluntary COVID checking before surgery.

Health workers are at a higher risk of contracting communicable diseases, such as COVID-19, due to the nature of their jobs.

Doctors and nurses spend more time with patients while performing high-risk procedures such as putting patients on ventilators, gathering sputum samples, performing bronchoscopy, endoscopy, and endotracheal intubation, and administering general anesthesia.

We wanted to reduce the risk, so we set up separate accommodations for the workers in nearby OYO rooms with proper laundry and dining arrangements that included mineral and protein-rich foods.

It was only normal for someone to be overwhelmed while they were away from home and loved ones every day, battling a high-risk crisis.

Our entire management team, including HR and Unit Heads, made it a point to schedule therapy sessions to keep them motivated and moving forward.
